JOHN MURRAY JOHNSTONE, known in adulthood as Murray, was the eldest of three sons born to Jeanie Murray and Thomas Thorburn Johnstone
He was born on 26 May 1887 in Cathcart, Glasgow, and died in 1958 at Edenhall Hospital, Inveresk, near Musselburgh, East Lothian.
He married Evelyn Georgina Wood, only daughter of Alexander Wood of Portknockie, Banff, and Jane Bell Frater, nee Purvis, of South Shirlds, County Durham, on 8 October 1919 in St Paul's Presbyterian Church, Harrogate, North Yorkshire photo pending
They had one child,

Murray served in WW1
Murray and Evelyn separated, and Murray was estranged from his daughter, who would never talk about him except to say he was an alcoholic. Another member of Evelyn's family says that he was a nice man, and it was Evelyn who took to drink.
